Are you planning to home school your children this coming year due to concerns over COVID-19 or the lack of quality found in many online distance programs? You've come to the right place! I am offering live online classes for certain grades of students this school year.
Many parents are nervous about teaching at home due to their busy schedules, concerns that their children need social interaction during this time, or worry they may not be able to adequately teach important subjects. I offer live virtual lessons covering the core subjects of language arts and math classes that follow VA State Standards as well as social studies and science curriculum. You can use these for the bulk of your homeschooling experience and add supplemental experiences as you do or do not wish. Examples might be family field trips, music lessons or a sport.
Our goal this year is to help your child master grade-level language and math skills as well as grow in their science and social studies knowledge through the use of various activities and interactive learning experiences that will allow your child to learn by seeing, hearing, touching and speaking. We’ll explore a variety of themes and topics using literature, interactive learning activities, music, technology, and experiments. All aspects of the classes will focus on creating building blocks onto which your student will be able to add future knowledge.
There are several benefits to going this route for both students and parents. Students have the benefit of private school style small classes where the instructor can provide personalized help. Indeed, my classes are structured and taught in the same manner as when I taught in private school classrooms. This allows a much more personal touch than a public school classroom. Student are able to interact in their small group and even eat lunch together online! Parents can be confident that the materials that their children are learning in class meet VA State Standards and that they are not missing anything along the way.
Tuition for the package of classes is $15,300 for the year, and is divided into 10 payments. Scholarships may be available on a limited basis for families who can demonstrate financial need. Because this is a small business with very small class sizes of 4-6, these scholarships will be limited.
Parents register with the county as home schoolers by sending in an intent to home school form, as well as a simple list of curriculum subject that they intend to have their children learn and a copy of a high school (or higher) diploma. I am happy to help parents with this process as well as to work with them to create report cards and deal with end of the year assessment. Virginia requires that home school students turn in either the results of a standardized test at the end of the year or a letter of evaluation. I am qualified to provide the letter should parents choose to go this route.
